Amazing view from the bedroom balcony and the veranda downstairs, beautifully kept gardens and the bedroom and ensuite were immaculately clean and very comfortable. The owner, Annamaria was wonderfully friendly, helpful and welcoming. I arrived quite late, and the kitchen was finished but she made me up a plate of prosciutto, and some bread and wine so I didn't go hungry! I've given it a low score for fun, because there simply wasn't any. It's not that kind of place - if you want peace, tranquility and relaxation it's perfect, but if you're looking for fun go elsewhere! The location - while stunningly beautiful - is not the easiest to get to though and you pretty much need your own car which was a slight drawback for me anyway as it meant I couldn't have a few glasses of wine with dinner in any of the surrounding villages as I'd have to drive afterwards. There isn't an actual restaurant in Locanda del Biancospino but if you let Annamaria know in advance that you want dinner, she will include you. You don't get a choice off a menu or anything, it's just whatever she happens to be making that day. The meal I got was excellent though and I am sure that I would not have been disappointed with anything else that Annamaria might have prepared as she is clearly a very good cook. The five towns of the Gandino Valley,
steeped in history, surrounded by rural countryside, yet to be discovered by the outside world.
At the foot of the Pre-Alps, not far from the Milan-Venice motorway and the Bergamo airport, just up from the longer Serio Valley, lie these five villages, rich in history, culture, natural beauty, and great livability.
GANDINO, with its churches, aristocratic mansions, monumental cathedral and the treasures of its museum, the tradition of delicious "melgotto", trails past stone huts, pastures, woods, and cliffs for rock climbing.
LEFFE, with its unique "pre-provostrial" church designed by the Swiss architect Mattoni, from Ticino; its 17th-century San Martino church; its dynamic Textile Museum; the exhibition of its pre-historic "lakeside dock" in the Town Hall; and its delightful nature walks emphasizing the environmental sciences.
CAZZANO SANT'ANDREA, with the pleasant lifestyle of a vivaciously patriotic village and its ancient community tower.
PEIA, with its proud "contrade" neighborhoods, its "Wool Road", and the many trails within and above the town.
CASNIGO, the home of the traditional "baghet" bagpipe, with its Trinity Sanctuary, "Our Lady of the Erbia" church, and the ancient sacristy of the parish church of "Saint John the Baptist" (San Giovanni Battista).
All five are yet to be discovered, accompanied by the seasonal rhythms of an array of unique, traditional events of exalted artistic, historical, and cultural interest.
"Le Cinque Terre", five "lands" not far away…waiting to be discovered…by YOU!
