Liked: Best hostal in Santiago!!! Just loved the place! rooms are amazingly cool, the atmosphere is just awesomeeee... it has a beautiful terrace in the yard great for spending time with friends and meeting people from all over the world! the bedrooms are really comfortable, and living rooms are super cool, but the best thing about this place is the staff, Alex, Diego, Dario, Juanma, Vicky, Tam, Stephanie, Zuko are superrrrr friendly, they are super helpful and make you feel completely at home, they even spend time with the guests and you will become friends with them in no time! The place is very clean, and it's on a great location. Breakfast is very basic but delicious and satisfying... but the best part of staying here was the bbqs on mondays... you can eat all the meat you want, drink all the pisco and beers you'd like for a great price and all the guests from the hostal get together and hang out... definitely a place to recommend if you come alone to meet people or if you come with friends to meet new people, party and have a great time! We fell in love with this hostal and we are pretty sure you will too! we'll be back for more next year for sure!
Disliked: it would be awesome to pay with credit or debit cards, but that's all! everything great

Liked: Some staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was a good size. My mattress was comfortable. Location is quiet enough. Feels safe. Common area with couches and cable television. Free wifi, usually with good connection. Kitchen well equipped.
Disliked: The shower took a long time to be hot, if it did reach "hot". Best shower is downstairs. It is very cold at night, so ask for extra blankets. No key for dorm room door - so don't lock it by accident or the reception won't be happy with you! Bathroom needs a new lightbulb.

Liked: Atmosphere was very good! There's a garden where happen some events, and it's so nice! All staff was perfect during my stay at El Castillo. Breakfast is normal, with cereal, milk, coffee, tea and, some days, bread.
Disliked: At first day, my room had some mosquitos. But, after this, I was changed and my "new" room was very good!

Liked: It's a hostel that gets all the details right. For example, every bunk bed in the dorms has its own reading light and there's soap and even hand cream in all the bathrooms. The garden is lovely (and has hammocks) too, there are free bikes for the guests to use and during the weekend we stayed there some of the staff even went out with the guests. Most of the staff are great too, especially Alex and Diego.
Disliked: The woman who checked us in seemed very disinterested, she made us wait for quite a bit to finish a personal phone call and then didn't bother much to show us the place. Breakfast is actually rather ok by South American standards, but sometimes things just finished and nobody was around to refill/replace them.

Liked: The hostel was comfortable, with a decent kitchen, friendly staff and nice large common area. Also, there weren't a lot of people staying while we were there, so the two of us had a four-bed room to ourselves the whole stay, even though we only booked (and paid) for the eight-bed room.
Disliked: The hot water didn't always work well, but that was about the only issue.
